The Royal Wedding!

Even if you have not been anticipating the Royal Wedding, I am almost positive that you have been waiting for the moment that Kate Middleton revealed her dress. And personally, I think she looked breathtaking!

The Alexander McQueen  dress was a perfect combination of designer Sarah Burton (the Create Director of Alexander McQueen) and Kate's classic personal style. With a lace V-neck bodice that hugged close to her body, Kate's dress very much resembled Grace Kelly's dress worn for her wedding to Prince Rainier of Monaco in 1956. Adorned with a tiara given to her by the Queen and train that was two meters long, Kate Middleton made the perfect royal bride.

oh the joys of blogging!

Although my blog is not the most popular blog in the fashion world, there are so many things that I love about blogging. One of my favorite things is getting a glimpse into the lives of bloggers from around the world. It is the most amazing feeling when you know that you have made an impact on people's lives, both close to home and across the world.

One of these moments recently happened to me with my latest give-away!! I originally got the necklace for my give-away from my most creative friend in Saskatchewan. Then I brought it out to Newfoundland with me, where I did the give-away. The lucky blogger who won the amazing necklace was from Argentina. So now, the necklace made by my friend in Saskatchewan, is all the way in Argentina - how cool is that!!!

Here is Rachel sporting the wondrous necklace. I think it looks fabulous on her and I love the way she has styled it!! I think the white t-shirt makes a great backdrop for the necklace, like she is showcasing a piece of art!! Make sure you check out Rachel's Blog.... there are lots of cool things going on!!

And they were all yellow!!

Yellow is the color evoked by light that stimulates both the L and M (long and medium wavelength) cone cells of the retina about equally.

There are some colors that, upon seeing, stimulate something in your brain that makes you feel wonderful - hence your favorite color. When I was young, I think that color was pink (I know....how cliche) - I am not sure why but it just made me feel good. Yellow on the other hand, has always been one of those colors that has never really inspired me. But lately, I have been finding myself so into yellow! I am not sure if I would call it my favorite color, but I am quite enjoying it for the moment!!

Here are some images of yellow that I am loving!! Doesn't she look fabulous in this perfect yellow cardigan (love the buttons in the back) and this Proenza Leather Satchel is to die for!! Plus, I love the sunshine inspired painting!!! What colors are inspiring you?? Do you have a favorite color??

I Heart Prague

Have you ever been to Prague, Czech Republic?? I think it is, well actually, I am sure it is one of my favorite cities in the whole world!!! The streets are lined with artists of all types and  the bridges which connect the city are adorned with beautiful statues. This, in combination with the small cobble stone streets and amazing architecture give the Eastern European city an old world charm. And the view of the fairy tale like castle is not too bad  either, it gives the city such a romantic feeling.... I would love to take Dominic there someday!

If you have never been there before, make sure to put it on your list of places to visit!! It is definitely on my list of places to go back to!!

I won!!

I usually enter give-aways to support other bloggers in their endeavors, as I know I like it when people enter my give-aways. And although I would love to win, I never actually expected to win!!
But alas, I have won a photo from Julie of Love, Juli(make sure to check out her as she has just shared some exciting news). Since I won first prize, I got to pick out any photo I wanted from Chelsea Victoria's amazing collection. I had such a hard time deciding because all of the photos were so nice and I really wanted the photo to look nice in our Swedish inspired cottage which has a white on white theme!! I ended us choosing this one (Up and Away):

Even though, these are very different, this one (Wonderland is Here) was a very close second. Which one do you like best???

Swedish Hasbeens at H & M

I am sure that most of my readers know that I have been wanting a pair of Swedish Hasbeens for quite some time now. As you may remember I posted about them here and hereAlthough I still don't have a pair, I have some good news to share with you about these amazing wooden soled clogs!!

The classic Swedish clog has joined up with H & M to offer a 70's inspired line of clogs in a wedge, a peep toe and a heeled summer sandal and they are on sale TODAY!!! Through the brilliance of H & M, they are made with environmentally friendly materials and they are at an extremely discounted price!!!

Since my nearest H & M is just over 900 km away, I don't think that there will be any way of me getting a pair of these classics before they are sold out. However, if you live closer, I suggest you get in your car, find the nearest H & M and get in line to get first dibs on your choice of size, color etc.!! Here are a few of my faves!!

Alex Monroe

We have met so many wonderful people in St. John's since we have moved here. One of our friends, who is from England has been so happy because his girlfriend is here visiting and we were fortunate enough to hang out with her. Not only was she dressed amazingly but she had the most beautiful jewelry I have ever seen. Upon asking here where she got it from, she told me it was Alex Monroe, an English Designer and I was instantly in love. The collection is so whimsical as it entails everything from beautiful birds and bees to enchanted little watering cans!! Make sure to check it out!! I know that I have just started my savings account to one of these beauties!!

These rings are from the Eyebright Collection and are only just a glimpse of what the collection has to offer!!  I love the aquamarine one in the middle!!

And of course, since I  spend my summer working with bees, I am absolutely smitten with this little bee necklace!! I would love, love love to have one!!

Little Jack Horner.......

I hope that everybody had a wonderful weekend!! As per usual, our weekend was packed full of activity - friends, food, homework and even a hike!! I did however manage to squeeze in some time for baking and I made this delicious plum flan!! Although I am not particularly concerned with my figure, it is an old favorite from my sister's low fat cook book! So if you are interested in making some delicious summer flan, the recipe is below!!

Summer Plum Flan Recipe

Ingredients:
3/4 cup white sugar
1/4 cup soft butter
2 eggs
1 cup all purpose flour
1 teaspoon fresh orange or lemon rind
1/4 cup milk
2 cups halved pitted fresh plums

Topping:
1/2 cup brown sugar
1 teaspoon cinnamon

Directions:
1.Cream together sugar and butter
2.Beat in eggs, beat well
3.Combine flour, baking power and rind
4.Beat into egg mixture alternately with milk, making 3 additions of flour and 2 of milk
5.Put batter into greased 10 inch springform pan or a 9 inch square baking dish
6.Arrange plums, cute side down, in circles on top, gently press into batter
7.Combine topping - sugar and cinnamon, sprinkle over fruit.
8.Bake in 350 degrees (180 C) oven 45-55 minutes

It should only take about 20 minutes to prepare and I promise it will be delicious! Let me know how it turns out if you do decide to make it!!

Color Your World

One thing I learned on my semester abroad in Sweden, is that scarves are a necessity for every outfit!!! I mean not only do they keep you warm but they give your outfit that chic twist that makes you and your outfit unique!! Plus, who doesn't look fantastic with a little bit on color by their face!!

So, if you are feeling like you need to update your wardrobe, just go out and buy a new scarf or an old thrifted one which nobody else will have, except you!! I found this gorgeous scarf at Winners and I can't seem to get enough of it. I love the multitude of colors and the Southwest Pattern which seem to  make every one of my outfits feel like Spring.

Summer Cardigans!!

I first saw these amazing summer cardigans/sweaters by Cardigans by Lynne Hiriak over at Express-o (a great blog which you should definitely check out), at which point I fell instantly in love. I can just see myself in a little seaside town, enjoying a nice cool glass of white wine, after a hot summers day, sporting of one these beauties!! If my budget was more willing I would take one of each!

Black Swan

Last night, I finally got a chance to watch Black Swan. And I must say that it actually lived up to all of the hype it has been getting. Not only was the story original but Natalie Portman was amazing. If I didn't already want to wear a tutu, I definitely would now!! If you haven't already seen it, it would make a great weekend flick!!

Spring's Top Trends: Pleated Skirts

At first I wasn't sure what I thought about this whole pleated skirt trend. Especially when my husband told me that they look like old lady skirts. But I think these pictures are definitely evidence of the pleated skirt's youthful sex appeal.Plus, there are so many different varieties of pleated skirt, the sheer skirt, the short skirt, the long skirt, the flowy skirt and finally the structured skirt. The options are endless and I for one, have decided that I one want to add one of these lovely skirts to my wardrobe. Well, actually I ordered a black one from Topshop but that was almost a month ago and I still haven't received it. I am sure that I will love it when  it does arrive, however I now wish that I would have ordered a colored one like the pastel green skirt below. I love it!!

My Little Pony

Some friends we have just recently met, invited us to their sea side home for dinner last night. They were  all kinds of hospitable and made us the most delicious pizza ever!! There is nothing better than some good home-made pizza, a glass of wine and good company!!
They live in a fantastic bright yellow house, which is full of character and over looks the Atlantic ocean. Right beside the house was a cute little barn and two adorable Newfoundland ponies. It was so nice to get out of the city and hang out with the ponies. Isn't he just the cutest. It was almost as if he was posing for this photo - such a photogenic little guy!! Thanks again for having us over!!

Have the loveliest of weekends,
Karen

April Showers Bring May Flowers

Although it is way too windy here to use an umbrella, I have been dreaming of bright colored brollies and shiny new wellies!! When I was young my brother and I used to find the biggest puddles to jump in and would come home with boot fulls of water. And although it may just be a nostalgic feeling, I have a bit of an urge to jump in some puddles with some brightly colored boots!!

White Wash

Every summer Dominic and I go back to our little house on the prairie so that we can tend to our bees. Although it feels like we have only just arrived here on the East Coast, the time to depart is quickly  creeping up behind us. And while it will be bitter sweet, I am actually very excited to get back to our little house in which we are half way through renovating!! Inspired by a white on white look, my goal was to make the house look like a modern/vintage Swedish Cottage and I am super happy with the way it has turned out so far!! And since we will soon be going back, I am starting to look for some style inspiration. Even though our house already had new flooring when we moved in, I love the look the white wash floor boards!!! Maybe in our next house!!

The Perfect Trench

I am currently on the hunt for the perfect trench coat for Spring. Meaning that it should be reasonably priced, with a great fit and a nice length!! Although I am more partial to buying a black one, there seems to be more options in the khaki color. Here are a few of the ones I have been considering. I think they both look light and airy and perfect for Spring!!

Almost Time For Sunnies!!

It almost looks like fall in these pictures, but nevertheless, it is Spring. Since it is our first Spring here in Newfoundland, we are never really sure what to expect from the weather, which I must say, has been quite sporadic. But regardless of the wind and the snow and the sleet and the rain, each cloud has a silver lining. In this case, the silver lining is the SUN which is getting consistently warmer and allowing me to wear my Sunnies which I desperately missed over the cold and cloudy winter!!

Repetto Shoes

It seems as though many of my posts this week have been inspired by the ballerina trend!! So I thought I would finish the week off with some of my favorite ballerina inspired shoes. Originally created for ballerinas, Repetto, located in Paris France, has a line of shoes for dancers as well as a fashion line. I have a red pair of these flats and absolutely love them as they compliment any wardrobe. Plus, I think that any of these flats would be perfect for both the ballet and color blocking trends this season. As you cannot order these beauties from Repettos online site, you can get them Canada's very own Gravity Pope. If you haven't heard of this store before, you should check it out online. It is definitely one of the best shoe stores I have ever been to.
